Squidoo or Hubpages for: 1. Creating backlinks? 2. Selling/Promoting products? I saw one impressive Squidoo in the solar niche that was the number 1 rank in google. I checked the backlinks for the page and there were 400+ (mostly forum sigs) Any thoughts?
I would vote for Squidoo to promote your products via Lenses, the reason why I am not supporting Hubpages is that Hubpages is in recovery mode after being hi by Google Panda Update, they have been advised by Matt Cutts of Google to start the idea of sub-domains to promote authentic and worthy content. It would be better for you to stick to Squidoo to get more responses.
To promote your products i suggest you use squidoo. Although they both are good and are good sources for promoting business.
I make back links from articles on both, as well as a number of other high page rank article directories. I prefer HubPages for the visual appeal, but neither are doing very well in Google, unless you write a long, quality hub or lens, and make tons of quality back links to it.
I have a lot of friends who really prefer Squidoo over Hubpages. Although there is no hard data that shows which on is effective over the other in my opinion both do their jobs and get the needed results.
Squidoo is better.. Hubpages doesn't allow affiliate links.. you also have to do good keyword research too check for competition...
Squidoo is the best. After the Panda Update HubPage is not so effective. You can add multiple modules on Squidoo.
I've finally decided that I like the Squidoo guestbook better. The addition of the feature to block HTML in comments has been great at stemming the flood of lensmasters leaving unrelated comments just to create backlinks within the system and the ban button has been nice to stop the truly annoying and bad players. Squidoo also has created their "Duel" module, where you can take comments in a pro/con format for discussions. This is a nice variation or addition to general comments.
I use both. I have found that my hubs on hubpages get pr 1 or 2 pretty quickly, even after Panda. However, I do write long hubs with good original content.
Why not use both? I write articles and submit to both Squidoo and Hubpages. But well of course, if you are looking for more publicity and advertising, Hubpages is the option. But, if you're looking for more quality links, I'd say Squidoo because it has a higher page rank.
I've never used Squidoo, I'll plump for Hubpages because I have used them and I can make money directly within the article.
Both are equally respected by the search engines, but these days to get a Hub page or a Squidoo Lens accepted is a little bit more difficult as they are clamping down on a lot of IM niches
