I am thinking on opening a forum and I am trying to think of ways to bring members... I was thinking on buying members from other forums. is this something that is normaly done and if yes have anybody done that before? What is the result?

If you are a forum owner/operator, are you willing on selling your members?
What do you think about this?

I've never heard of it being done with forum members, but when netscape was launching their digg clone, they bought digg users.

:eek:So you think any forum owner has the right to sell the members on the forum??
I've never heard about that before,if you want to have more members in your forum, you could pay someone to post on your forum! (Paid Posting)

Oh, I missed that last line. I thought you were talking about paying the members to switch to your forum.

Well, paying someone to post sort of makes sense, but make sure it's the right people and you have some guidelines about the kinds of posts that will get them paid - and make sure they are actually into the subject of your forum.

Offer to pay for referrals, I have seen some forums grow very fast by paying for referrals

No, this technique doesn't work usually. I recently wrote up a post explaining when it works and when it doesn't. PM me and I'll forward you the link.

There are a lot of forums with few members that don't have good success nor a future. My idea was that I'll offer to buy members from many small forums to make a big one... ofcourse same subject... I quess is like buying forums and redirect the members to another one. This technique should work... what do you think?

I'll send you a PM DFischer...

Don't buy members... just hire a forum posting company to keep your forum posts pumping. It's not too expensive and if you find the right company they can do a real good job.

Try looking around in this place and I am sure you can find a decent company.

Why would you want to buy members in the first place?

More importantly, you should be "buying" their interest. That's how a forum becomes successful.

You can't buy "members"!!! You can buy forums merge their logins into yours, redirect their domains to your forum and let all members know that their logins are the same. One issue is, in case you buy several small forums; What do you do with duplicate login names...

Well i quess that in the end is not a very good idea... But for example, if I own a big forum and I want to buy another forum on the same niche... how this will be done to have them merged. Is like when Adobe bought Macromedia... everything was merged even the Macromedia forum members where mouved to Adobe forums, same login... so is doable.

And when you buy posts, you don't have active members... those are "fake" members so you can get "real" ones... btw, has anybody used posting companies? how good are they? any sugestions on which to use?

Best way to get forum members to sign up for your forum is by finding forums that related to your's and adverties your forum there!

It's going to cost money but if your budget is big! you'll end up with a forum where you can sell ad space and put adsense on it!

Yes it is, there are two methods for doing that.
    1. You can unify the logins into the same system, in this case the logins for the main forum remain the same but the logins for the merged forum will be somthing like [login name]@merged_forum
    2. You can keep two login DBs. In this case, the user will choose if he is of the main forum or the merged one, and the login will be directed to the right DB, much like Yahoo integrated flickr into it's login system.

I dont know if this is allowed because I am recomending namepros but you can buy some NP$ and pay members to post in your forum.

the easier the subject the cheaper NP$ you have to pay them.
