Hi DPers, I released a free wordpress plugin yesterday at wordpress plugin directory and looking at ways to promote it. So far, I have 1. Created and used a video. 2. Inserted preview screenshots and filled all details possible along with a review. 3. Contacted few wordpress niche bloggers and pitched about the release. 4. Well optimized It brought 120+ downloads in day1 of launch. I plan to do blog commenting and announce in forums. I'm looking for 1. List of blogs and forums that talk about wordpress and plugins. The more I search, I end up finding blogs on themes but very few that cover plugins. 2. List of wordpress plugin directories. How can I move forward? I'm stuck at 1. Twitter (I'm using #tags to contact possible bloggers). Is there any other better way? 2. Targeting more bloggers to review or submit my plugin for discussions, directories. I'm more interested in learning and using other better ways to promote the wordpress plugin. Thanks
Paid bloggin is an option (pay bloggers to write reviews at their personal blog), but Google started penalizing this sort of advertisement so it's a two edged knife. As for promotion, any other SEO trick will work from article and press release submission, to link building (from pages of other plugins), link wheels, regular directory submissions (category Technology or Internet). I don't know of any specialized directories that focus on Wordpress plugins. The WP plugin repository is used for just that, I guess that's why there are not much other directories. Oh and you can also release free WP ebooks or templates with your link at the footer, then upload the theme to theme directories. If somebody uses your theme on his site - that's free promotion and Google link juice.
You could get bloggers to write about like mrgee suggested also they might send out emails to their subscribers. What exactly is your plugin good for?
Hi there, WordPress Plugins can extend WordPress to do almost anything you can imagine. WordPress provides a free home for any plugin at the WordPress Plugin Directory. If you have created your wordpress plugin, before promoting it would be better to check and test it with WordPress Plugin Repository and Subversion (also known as SVN) is software that allows you to easily store and manage your plugin projects. Before promoting free check out the entire WordPress plugin repository on the following websites: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add/ http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing/Updating_WordPress_with_Subversion http://subversion.tigris.org/ http://www.easyphp.org/ Download, install and code! Setup at a glance a pre-configured Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP environment on your system or on a USB drive and develop or present locally your projects. http://code.google.com/p/phpsvnclient/ PHP SVN Client class that can perform read operations from a SVN server (over WebDAV). After finishing above steps and when the documentation is ready, it’s time to Promote Your New Plugin. 1. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add/ 2. http://wordpress.org/support/forum/10 Create New topic on this Forum and in Tittle must mention Your Plugin name. Use a simple but informative template to describe your plugin release. Also Don’t forget to mention: 1. Plugin Name 2. Plugin URL 3. Description 3. http://weblogtoolscollection.%20com/news/forum/new-wordpress-plugins 4. http://wp-plugins.net/ Good place where you must ad your plugin. 5. http://codex.%20wordpress.org/Plugins/Plugin_Compatibility Add your plugin to the WordPress Plugin Compatibility list. For the most up-to-date plugin compatibility data, please visit individual plugin pages on the WordPress Plugin Directory and look for the Compatibility widget You need to register before you can add changes to the list. 6. Off course Never forget to Announce the plugin on your blog. Thanks
Could be an idea to contact bloggers who blog about WP/blogging and ask them to write a post about your plugin, that's a bound way to get a ton more downloads, if your plugin was on the firstpage of problogger, think about the traffic you'd be getting
Yes, I have been contacting wordpress niche bloggers. I'm more interested in blogs that speak about wordpress specifically. I'm also in search of wordpress discussion forums. Thanks Kristiaan. Gone through all of them long before and submitted to those resources. btw, here's the plugin link: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/contact-call-plugin/
That's a nice plugin, I would recommend to my friends who need to have voice calls with their customers.
