I hope this is the right spot for this. I got a html website and i want to put it on word press. I never used word press before and i cant figure how to set it up. I downloaded the word press and it gave me a folder full of stuff, but im lost from there. If anyone knows how i can set it up please explian.
1. Download and unzip the WordPress package, if you haven't already. 2. Create a database for WordPress on your web server, as well as a MySQL user who has all privileges for accessing and modifying it. Rename the wp-config-sample.php file to wp-config.php. Open wp-config.php in your favorite text editor and fill in your database details. 3. Place the WordPress files in the desired location on your web server: If you want to integrate WordPress into the root of your domain (e.g. h ttp:// example. com/), move or upload all contents of the unzipped WordPress directory (but excluding the directory itself) into the root directory of your web server. 4. If you want to have your WordPress installation in its own subdirectory on your web site (e.g. h ttp:// example .com/blog/), rename the directory wordpress to the name you'd like the subdirectory to have and move or upload it to your web server. For example if you want the WordPress installation in a subdirectory called "blog", you should rename the directory called "wordpress" to "blog" and upload it to the root directory of your web server. 5. Run the WordPress installation script by accessing wp-admin/install.php in your favorite web browser. If you installed WordPress in the root directory, you should visit: h ttp:// example. com/wp-admin/install.php 6. If you installed WordPress in its own subdirectory called blog, for example, you should visit: h ttp:// example. com/blog/wp-admin/install.php That's it! WordPress should now be installed. If you are hosted on a server with cPanel look for Word Press inside Fantastico. Just one-click painless installation
ya, i got it thanks, now im trying to figure out how to custimize the look and all, i would like to be able to due some html parts on my own or instal correct plug is or somthing
once i download a new them what do i do with that folder so it ables to my blog? Im also wondering if i can change different parts of the theme like the header and maybe add different navigation styles.
Sorry for all the wordpress questions but i have another. Does wordpress support a wordpress blog search. Like the search that searches your blog not a search engine?
Yeah, it searches through your entries. When you install it, you should see a search bar in the navigation. When you look at your template, you should be able to move it where you want.
Thanks for all your help, i downloaded a theme and i ftp'ed it ito my wordpress them folder but it wont work, I deleted the classic one that was there and i deleted defult but when i delete defult nothin appears in blog. Can some one help
cj you're just going to have to play around with WP a bit. It's highly customizable and can be somewhat overwhelming at first . I too just installed WP on my server yesterday. To select what theme you want to have displayed from the "Dashboard" select the 'Presentation' button and simply click the theme you want. Each theme installs somewhat differently. Read the Readme files and take it slowly. Good luck
Why did you delete them?Just keep them in your blog, they don't take up too much space in your server.
The first time I installed a script it was a huge multi-hour nightmare. One simple thing was wrong with a filepath, and I refused to give up. You can get lot's of help here, but nothing beats determination + trial and error= experience. Best of luck, and always ask for help before smashing your monitor
