Selling a car

My dad decided to sell his car and has published an ad on an advertising website.

He got contacted by a guy who got very interested in buying the car without discussing a single detail. The guy is based in Alabama, US and willing to pay via PayPal right away! He wants the car to be picked up by a private courier company and he is also willing to pay all fees and charges. In the email he claims to have 0 records in the criminal records.

I'm not going to give any/more details about him because he might be a legit buyer.

We are located in Sweden. What are the risks involved? How to proceed with the deal while both sides are safe (at least us)? Why would someone buy something expensive abroad? Has anyone had a similar experience?

I've tried searching online using his details but I don't get anywhere, it was just another seller who refused to sell his bike when he got contacted by him.

I recommend you to not deal with that person, tell him to pay via wire transfer than deal, if he refuses, do not make any deal with him.

Try answering a very few questions yourself, and you will be able to determine whether the "interested" party is a legit buyer or not. Would you ever buy a car and pay for it in full without knowing much about it? Would you not be interested in the exterior, interior, and technical conditions of the vehicle? Ignore the guy to save your time, he's not a buyer.

Without any doubt just go with Escrow or direct bank transfer instead of paypal IMO.

    DON.

Escrow is the best and safe way to go for this deal.

if you get the cash then you can sell the car, remember ur not in US but he is. so PayPal never safe for you. It will be great if you ignore the buyer and sell somewhere else.

We've sent him an email proposing him paying in cash via his private courier company but he still hasn't responded yet so this may be a scam sign.

It is a scam, believe me. Like mentioned above, he isn't even interested in the details of the car etc. Tell him you just planned a vacation to where he lives and you're going to get there with the car (on boat etc). He'll refuse fast then, because he doesn't want to get that much contact with the seller.
