A few years ago I signed up to an anti capital punishment group in the US and occasionally receive their emails. I usually disregard them but this one is different; the victim forgave him but the perpetrator is now awaiting execution on deathrow. Here's his plea to save the man who did him wrong: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YivxImox3B8&feature=youtu.be I find this very interesting. This man is calling for Rick Perry to grant him clemency and instead have him imprisoned for life without parole - which doesn't sound any better to me... Looking at this case this skin head looks like a lunatic. If I were Rick Perry I'd have to politely decline the request for clemency. He shot a killed others before this man. For me, this just shows that more people should be armed for self-defence. I don't understand why more Americans don't (especially Texans) considering cases like these aren't too uncommon. If I'm not mistaken, he's scheduled to die today. What are your thoughts?
I call it Bollox.. Ask the families of the people who died, do they want to grant clemency? I don't think so.. The society is better off without murderers, no one is going to miss a killer. Why should tax payers bear the burden of the expenses to keep them alive and healthy? Eye for an eye doesn't leave the world blind, it just saves many from losing an eye.
Discraceful. This must now officially be the most depressing thread on DP. I used to be in agreement with those who picket outside the prisons, campaigning for the lives of criminals to be preserved in favour of life detention, although my opinion has changed over the last few years. I know I don't want my taxes to be spent keeping them alive. We haven't had capital punishment here since 1964, which was hanging. I find it interesting why the states provide several ways of execution, although I understand chemical and electrocution executions are the only ones applied today? @Breeze, there are various branches of Christianity, as I'm sure you know, who oppose the death penalty. I'd be interested to hear about your view and that of your church (if you are a member of one?) I know practically nothing about the Eden sect (?).
The victim's name is Rais Bhuiyan. He's suing the government. I'm not sure for how much. Generally, his beliefs are that if he forgives someone and asks for mercy on them, the government should provide "mediation and reconciliation." There's a lot more detail to it, if you would like to read about it, here's a PDF of his court paper.
@The Webby - LOL @Brum - You're welcome. If you scroll down that document to about page 25 "Conclusion and Prayer for Relief" - you'll see part of the lawsuit lists a request for punitive and compensatory damages to the plaintiff (e and f). But, the ($) fields are left blank on that copy. So, just to clarify, I'm not really clear now as to whether he's trying to get cash as well. I've checked the media, but am just reading that a lawsuit has been filed to delay the execution.
I guess Mark Stroman liked to blog. Look at the right side under Blog Archive, there are posts from Aug 08 to Jul 11.
Mark it down: 12:52pm 7-20-2011... Breeze said something with which I agree. I really should retire now.
I "really" do not know what to say......leave the one, still alive in New York for robjone's to take care of would be fine with me - politics aside.
LOL. Hey, I just wanted to sneak on here real quick to say if anyone replies to one of my posts, I'm not going to be back on DP for a minimum of a week. I started a brand new job today. I'm working in a corporate office for a company that owns and manages numerous medical centers. It pays much better, but I have so much to learn - for at least the next week, I won't even have a day off, it's just going to be work and sleep. Anyway, everyone take care!
Thanks Webby. It's now been four long days, four more to go, then I'll take a day or two off. I'm already a bit frustrated with it. It was only my first or second day, and this lady walks up to my desk and says, "Didn't you get me email?" I said, "Email? Which email? What did it say?" She says, "Oh no, you have to actually read it." I thought that was strange (why can't she just tell me?), but asked, "Okay, well when did you send it?" She says, "Three minutes ago!" I kind of chuckled at that, and said, "Oh, well that's why I haven't read it..." She just kept looking at me with this straight expression. Then someone else explained to me, in the office, we all read our emails instantaneously as they come in. Someone else suggested that I set up an alert on my computer, so that no matter what I happen to be doing, I'm notified at that second of any incoming emails. In my mind, I'm just thinking, "Oh, WTF!" These are the most anally retentive people I've ever met. lol. And, the emails, half of them are just crap I don't even care about anyway. It seems like hardly any one talks that much, they just stay chained to their desks and write boring emails to eachother. Then this weekend, I set off an alarm in the building. There is a department that I do have to enter on occasion, and I have a little bar code clearance card to unlock the door. What they didn't tell me, is not only do I have to use that to unlock the door with scanning the card, but once I get in, I have to punch in a certain code to disarm the alarm, then put in another to reset it after I leave. They didn't bother to tell me that, and it sent a call as if someone was breaking and entering. They seemed to think that was funny, but I was pretty annoyed. In the meantime, I had another offer to go work somewhere else. I told them I would tell them one way or the other this coming Friday, but they don't pay quite as well. So, I don't know. I will most likely just stay where I'm at, but I'm not totally happy. What I would really like to do is stay at home and make crafts, and sell them on my Etsy store. Anyway, I'll probably check in again on DP Friday or Saturday -- just venting right now. Ha Ha.
Well, that's kinda funny.. But in all seriousness, its just a typical corporate environment.. People try to make life miserable for newbies (specially if you are a good looking newbie, sounds weird.. Right?). I'd say forget the alarm for emails, instead set an auto-responder so people will get an instantaneous reply the moment they send you any email. Beware of in-office pranks and jokes as well, these are usually funny but not when *you* are on the receiving end. Sometimes these pranks go over the top and will annoy the hell out of you. The being said, I wont be surprised if that alarm incident was a prank played on you. Good luck again, seems like you need lots of it
