302 redirect question

    Hi Guys,

I have two sites that have content that are similar but not directly the same.

One is a PR1 site that I haven't updated in a long time and as a result is slipping down the SERP's.

The other is a newer site but is stable at #10 in Google.

I want the newer site to perform better and am not worried about the older site anymore. So, I was wondering, would it be of benefit to put a 302 permenant redirect from the original site to the new site?

Also, my new sites domain is a 100% match keyword-wise for the term I am targetting. And the old domain name does have a keyword match for the term I am after as well (if this helps).

Love to know your thoughts on this one :)

Acutally that should have been a 301 redirect. But, the same question still applies. Thanks :)

After you setup your 301 redirects, go into your google webmaster tools account and go to the site moved area. There you actually tell Google the URL to where your site moved to.

Will that help SERP wise though?

I think the SERP will be carried over to the new site.

It takes some time, but PageRank will eventually flow through and update as well

I don't know if this is a co-incidence or not. But, after putting this into action approx 20 hours ago. My site has now jumped to position 9 in the SERP's.

Previously, my site had never been above 10.

This is a classic. My site is now #8.

This is the best thing I could ever have done for this site :)

    [edit]
I just realised that I own another domain that has a keyword match as well in it. I might redirect it as well :)
