Someone offered to buy my site

OK first I think this is a scam. But incase it is not, I would like some advice. I got a message in my e-mail today from someone offering to buy my site for $3000. How do you go about selling it. I mean i do not want to transfer everything to them and just hope it is real and then get screewed. I am more then likely not selling it anyways. But just wondering how you go about doing something like this. Is there a middle man company out there? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me in this matter.

Make a website purchase agreement requiring a 50% nonrefundable down payment and use Escrow.

I have had exactly the same offer via blog comments or email for all of my blogs, it's a scam!

Do 50% payment then give him the files another 50% payment then transfer domain ...

 

When I sold sites before I had the person paypal me half up front and then the other half once I transferred the domain to them; however, the sites I sold were for only $300ish. If I were to sell a site in the multi-thousand range I would certainly use an escrow service or domain sales service to protect myself as everyone else has recommended.

Research the buyer (Some people just want your analytics' and other data)
Negotiate the price

Why use time on it if you dont want to sell it?
But if there is a buyer you need their details and then you have the possibility to check out the company. And ALWAYS get the full amount upfront! Dont give credit or anything to someone you dont know!

 

You can use Escrow.com I've done it plenty of times. They escrow the money, you transfer them the site, once they confirm they've received it, the funds are released to you.

This is a scam because I got the exact email. You also cannot find the business actually listed anywhere.

 

Network Solutions has an escrow service that you can use to sell your site. I sold one of my sites when I got an unsollicited offer from a buyer using Network Solutions. Sold the site to him.

 

Using such a solution is best. Even if they take a small fee its worth the security and they can be the middle person between both sides.
