I have just added a ChatRoulette clone to my social network using a simple script I got for $49. It has only just been added so it is not very busy yet. The idea is to have a random webcam chat service but moderated without the nudity that is always found on the other random webcam chat sites. Give it a try and let me know if you have any success. http://www.liveonlinechat.net/chat/pages/random-webcam-chat Thank you.
Good site. Clear and to the point. I could figure out what was going on very quickly. The only issue I had is that 2 people were on line (was I one of them). You need more people online. The idea/concept is pretty cool however. I can see this picking up. Also, +6000 Facebook "likes". Well done. This give you credibility instantly. Consider making this more prominent. Cheers.
The site has been mine for over 5 years. I stared it with a basic $5 text flash chat script on a shared server and left it there. One day, I had an email from the hosting company telling me they couldnt host the site anymore, too many connections. I went to the site and found 20 people chatting in the room. Since then I have upgraded servers 6 times and now host it on a dedicated server running Flashcoms and using SocialEngine as the community platform. This is my main project and it has been amazing fun because I have met lots of people of all different types, from different backgrounds and countries, made a lot of friends and actually met my future wife there, who I am sat with now in Florida. She will be coming back to Spain with me at the end of August. We have had online engagements, people have got married and at the same time, I have been working hard at promoting it and working on new features. I spend hours and hours on the site every day and have a team of over 40 admin and moderators keeping the chat rooms and community clean. It has been and will be stressful at times. Some days I spend 3 days awake and powernap for a few minutes before continuing work. I have spent a small fortune on the site and tried out many different software and scripts to make it perfect. Right now, things seem to be going quite well, but like any project, it will never be finished and I will never be 100% happy with it. The Facebook button I added just over a year ago has brought in many people and I also built a basic Facebook app to promote the chat rooms more on Facebook, this worked quite well. I am always looking to add new features and tidy up old features aswell as keeping the site up to date and at speed. Thank you for the kind words, is 6,000 a lot of likes? How would I make this more prominent? Your thoughts and suggestions are very much appreciated. Thank you, Simon.
Best way is to get admins and moderators involved in your site as much as possible. Make sure that everyone knows the none nudity rules before they go into the chat. Keep your admin tools up to date and monitor all cams and chatters to make sure they are sticking to the rules. If you see a naked person, IP ban them from root. I have also added a ban tool in the community where you can ban a users account and they cant get back in to create a new account, even when using a proxy. To use a cam in the chat room, a user must first signup from the community side, so this has really helped and since the install, we havent had any nude people, my admins and mods are getting bored with no one to ban! Best thing is to keep on top of it yourself, lots of hours, but at the end of the day, you get to boast about having one of the cleanest chat sites on the net and you attract a lot of genuine decent good people who are there to chat and make friends and have a good time without the adult theme.
