How many pictures on your website is too many?

I know having too many pictures will slow down load time.

Any idea how much is too much?

 

It depends. On a frontpage I wouldn't have more than maximum 5 pictures, and the other pages depends on if its portfolio or something else. Some pages will have more pictures than others, but it shouldn't be any problem with loading time with todays internets and with a OK webhotel/server.

 

If they are not in Flash I think you're okay...how many do you want to put? I think if it's a portfolio site, you might want to just start with your best ones or pick 60 that you absolutely have show. agree with ^

 

Anything more than 3-4 mid sized pics i would use a sprite to create the entire image then instead of there being 3-4 http reuests for each picture which would slow your site down there would only be one http reuest.

also crunch the images to make them small in size to speed up the loading.

i think it depend on your image size. you should resize your pic to make it of small size. if your picture size is very large the nit takes much time load that page.

 

well, it also depends on what kind a site you will be having. coz if you are going to have a graphic/image/photography related website then you really need to show off images. But if your concern is about loading speed with your website pages then I think you can experiment. Test how much your web hosting can handle.

 

well there is too many pictures slow down the website this knows everybody but i think that most of us don't look at their capacity that we put 2 or 3 pics on a page but they has a large resolution and pixels. That type of image make our website slow down too.

 

it depends on the pages you are going to include in the site ........if you are developing a web site of 10 pages then i think 20-22 images are sufficient......because too much images can slower down the site load speed......

For me it depends.
Are you asking if it is too much for a web page to load or too much for a user to see?
Anyway, I'll comment on both.

For a web page to load
It should be based on the number of images and their sizes.
If there are too many pictures, just make sure you use small sized pics.
One way to keep the file size small is to convert png files to jpg format and reduce their dimensions.
Image size and number of images are big factors when loading web pages.

For a user to see
I included this as it is also important for the user-friendliness of the site.
Just make sure there are no more than 9 images that can be seen (without scrolling) on the page.
Anything more than 9 images confuses your users.
The human mind can work properly with 9 figures or less.
Seven is the average actually (the reason why they only use 7 digits only on phone nos.).

 

It's depend on how much your server size is,the more larger server the more you have pictures

 

Anyone who attempts to give you a number is a bozo. It can't be given. There are a number of factors that affect this. Mainly design and download time and those two factors cannot be dictated to you. Any other answer is amateur.

 

In SEO terms you want to keep the file sizes down to a minimum as Google has started to penalize slow websites. As someone has mentioned try loading multiple images into one file so there are less requests to the server. Also if you need a lot of images (photography site for example) make sure you annotate each one so there is some text content on the page (also remember to use alt tags on all)

There are no limitation but try to use images using CSS. That will help you in loading the website.

 

It mostly depends on the character of the page. if the content requires then can have more. But always try to reduce images to the minimum and we can use css3 codes to generate the effects that we used to create by images.
