Are Q&A sites worth starting nowadays?

I'm thinking of starting a Q&A site and I almost have everything
figured out about it, though will it be worth it?

I mean, there are a lot of Q&A websites out there and with Google
demanding quality content I'm not sure anymore if a Q&A website will
    be profitable.

The site will cost about $200 to set up with hosting and a professional
    looking design.

It's going to take you a long time to get the website anywhere near the size it needs to be to be successful, but if your happy to stick with the project and come up with some unique ideas and maybe some decent traffic generation methods, then yeah I'd say it is worth it. :)

    Hmm yeh.

My main concern is that the questions wont rank well since they often concists or very few words.
Though My plan is to launch the website in another language thang english where the competition is not that high.

I guess if you target a Q&A in a specific niche very well, .e.g. golf, then I'm sure you'll be on to a winner.

It's not true. now a days long tail keywords are playing vital role in search results and even Google auto suggestion gives you this option. Keywords like question or How to etc is easy to rank.

Is it going to be a general q&a site like Yahoo Answers or will it focus on a specific niche?

I'm I'm doing an English Q&A I think I will go for a specific niche.
Though if I do one in the other language then it will be general.

Don't know what to say. I wanted to create a Q&A site for blogging, but I was displeased with the scripts I found. One was free and actually looked OK, until I tried to put my unique design on it. Horrible experience. I'd go for a niche maybe, not a general Q&A site. I still like the idea of doing this, who knows .. in the future ..

I think any site/niche can be successful if you're willing to do the work. You don't have to have a huge site to see results, either. I would do some keyword research and find longtail keywords (keywords with 3+ words) in the Q&A format. I'd suggest writing quality posts (or use a pro writer) that are more than 400 words in length and then building backlinks from relevant sites to those posts. I'm doing this with a few niche sites now and I am seeing Adsense earnings and traffic without a lot of posts (three posts on one site and 20 on another). I'm getting 300+ uniques per month on one of the sites and I am ranked in the top 10 for one of my KW and on the second page for three other keywords. I just started the site in February.

Now a days ,Question answers are suitable only or building knowledge-base,if you have website/service/product requires support ticket system.

Building a stand alone Q&A site with the common theme of commercial interest is waste of time (my point of view)
because of increasing spam, Difficult to monetize, organise data)

If you have the commercial interest then you may choose over forum system over Q&A system
