So far, none of the software i downloaded worked except this one.

    Restorer2000 PRO
Or Even the "Restorer2000" version of it. In demo mode, it limits the recovery of 128K file. I was able to recover my "Favorites" folder with it.

Still it reads only 31GB of HD. Looks like other HD is damaged badly that no software can read it :(
    Updated
A friend of mine just sent me an other recovery tool. Working on it and it seems helpful. So far, I am able to recover my C Drive. Still, it’s not reading the whole HD. Seems like the other part of HD was badly damaged. No software seems to read beyond 31GB.

I will keep you guys updated.
(Working on it from the past 34 hours and haven’t slept so far :( )
Thats what it takes to recover your life's work..

    Hi
Seems like I am done with it, so giving all of you an update.

I was able to recover 31 GB of data. (That’s includes 11GB of windows installation + installed software)

I am able to save one out of two projects I was working for the past 3 months. I am able to get 20% my wallpaper collection. And little personal stuff is back.

Unfortunately, my current site backup is gone. That also include all the new wallpaper I was planning to add in the start of November. (Around 3000+ wallpapers)
My 80% collection is gone as well.... that is more than 18+GB. :( All software collection is gone too :( :(

Well, I have written "Something is better than nothing" on a piece of paper and every time I get sad, I look to it.
So, wish me luck.. Though still, I m in a shock but trying to recover from it.

I had the same thing happens a few weeks ago. I always tell my clients - back-up! but I never do. My HD lost about fives years worth of data but I shipped it off to ECO Data - they gave me a quote of $1,000 for 100G and everything I had already done to it - ran it through a couple of programs already and once made it lose its partition - they restored all my data for me. One product was from Higher Ground Software - using this software just taught me to send the hard drive off to a professional.

Now we are just looking at some options on mirroring and backing up regularly. I (once again) am putting it off until Vista is released so I can just buy a new computer and then use my old one for a back-up server.

I would cry if that happened to me.

I have everything I want and ever needed.

    I have a 200gb WD and a 300gb Maxtor.

I have about 50gb free space between the 2..

Wow you guys can sure fill up your HDs! On my 4 year old Dell PC, it has a 60GB HD and only 28GB (includes Windows XP install) are in use! Also on my new Core 2 Duo iMac, it has a 160GB HD and right now only 35GB are in use (and that includes the install of Mac OSX, iLife 06', Microsoft Office, etc.)

Why need a software? Just write your data on a DVD-R (4.5 GB disc). They are very cheap.

I save everything. I have emails from the year 2000 and onward.

Attorneys either love me or hate me because I save everything and it really helps just in case. Plus I have all my old websites - I saved each version.

Looking into a new system with RAID for one and then an extra 320G HD just in case.

    Hey Fastian,

This never happened to me personally and when it happened I had a mirror copy on another same size hdd so I receovered safely, but once it happens to my organization where the emails data of whole organization was at risk:)

I would suggest you not to try each and every software you came across to know except the one you can trust as doing several experiements will also ruin your data and could probably overwrite some sectors resulting in your data to be non-recoverable.

I tell everyone that there are backup Gods that go around and look for people who don't make backups and then they knock out their hard disks. The more info you have that is not backed up the more likley you are to lose your hard drive.

    Ok Guys.

I am really happy to announce that after going through a lot, I was finally able to recover almost all of data back :)

I got about 95% of my data and I m really really happy. The other 5% was not of much importance so I almost recover everything.

I will like to say THANKS to everyone who helped me in one way or the other. I might not be able to get anything without the support & help you guys gave me here at DP.

Well, I wish I could give all of you a treat here :D
