There seems to be a wave of "cloud" related domain registrations after hearing about the high end sales of several cloud domains. I am not quite convinced if this is just a trend or something that is here to stay.
You have a point! I blame Apple. Living in San Francisco, I see tons of billboards for "Cloud" related services (8x8.com, etc). It would make sense that someone would jump on Cloud.com now rather than down the road a little, but the fact remains that cloud technology has some fundamental issues that needs to be worked out (Amazon - failure brought down a couple massive websites) before it can reach more mainstream. Will that happen? Probably, but in the interim "the cloud" might be a bit too trendy to really reflect the longevity some might like to see in it.
