    Hi guys.........
Is it better to go to a college or institute, or from books and programs? And what are good sites, software, programs, and books that help with learning and excelling in web development?

the best way is to start a site of your own.

there are a lot of things that you will need to learn:

    1) how to register and setup a domain name [dns, a records, cname records]
    2) code to learn [html, javascript, css, php, java, ruby?]
    3) learning how to make graphics for your site
    4) learning how to write decent content for your site
    5) learning how to get traffic, and keep that traffic
    6) learning how to be at the top of search engine results

on top of this you will also need to actually make your site, analyse how well it does and what changes you do to the site have what specific results [positive and negative]

and after you have mastered all of that then you can try to make money.

    hi,
first understand the concept of web (static and dynamic) and try to make simple static web using HTML and java script
and then go to PHP/ASP for dynamic web

you could try create some blog with blogger, wordpress
you could try create a web with CMS (content management system), example : joomla

which path you want to choose is back to you, go to college if you want to get bachelor degree.

    hi sarika123,

i do agree with localhost8080 as i also took a similar route to learn web development. :)

but for the server-side coding i choose to stick with php as it's easy to learn & implement.

The best way to learn about web development is to build your own project from the beginning. Pick up a niche of your interest buy domain name and start reading forums, blogs and sites related to web development. Good luck!
