The quality is more important than quantity, you wouldnt get into page 1 although you have thousands low quality backlink. You might need only few quality backlink to bring you to page 1
It really just all depends. You need to get correct backlinks as well, not just random unrelated backlinks. You need to do more research before you try to get ranked.
