PHP Certification

Is there somewhere one can take a certification exam for PHP?

The best certification is from Zend. It will add you a lot of reputation among the community.

 

The Zend Certification Exam is a very balanced exam and covers a wide variety of topics. I highly encourage you to get a copy of the certification study guide since it will help you identify areas that you need to brush up on.

BTW, once you pass the exam you will also get a nice little authentication page like this: Look, I passed my Zend certification exam!

I am by no means an authority on the certification exam. However, if you don't have extensive experience with PHP or some other similar language (PERL, C++, etc.) then it might be best to wait.

Zend offers discounts on subsequent exams so if for some reason you don't pass the first time it'll be cheaper the next time. It might be of some benefit to take it once to see the style of the exam. Your mileage may vary...

Question though - should I get Zend Studio Enterprise or just Zend Studio Server?

 

Those are tools of the trade and are not required to learn, create, or deploy PHP applications. But...they sure are nice tools.

No offense...but if you were interviewing with a Silicon Valley company (or any company for that matter) would you rather tell them you are a Zend Certified Engineer or that you passed the Brain Bench PHP5 online test?

There is a certain level of prestige that is inherent with a Zend certification. There are thousands of coders that are at the engineer level or higher however if they don't put in the extra effort to certify that skill who else will know what standard level of experience they truly have?

I ordered PHP5 for dummies plus the book on the zend site along with 2 others from Amazon - I'm giving myself until June to get more than aquainted with it so that I can take the exam. I've also gotten a few sitepoint books on it as well.
