If you haven't already heard about this, I would highly encourage you to checkout CloudFlare. There are so many benefits from speeding up your site 50% or more to reducing spam, and even making extra revenue.

This is probably the most exciting new webmaster service I have seen all year, and it is free (and they have a pro plan too). We are using it on phplinkdirectory.com as well as several other sites and loving it.

They even made the news recently when it was found that Lulzsec was using it (hacker group). One of the reasons they used it is it makes it almost impossible to take the site offline.

I've been with CloudFlare for a couple of my sites... my http://www.accelerating.net directory is using CloudFlare and page-load time has been dramatically reduced - I strongly recommend it as it's proven to make your site more secure and faster (they cache your pages and protect from threats.)

Thanks! I just installed it and things do seem a lot faster.

Have you had any problems with legitimate visitors being barred from your site or otherwise bothered by this feature?

In your hostgator cpanel account, scroll down to the bottom under the "Advanced Tab" for the cloudflare button. I never tryed it out this way but i manually registered on the cloudflare homepage and set everything up a few months ago. You might actually be able to get help setting this up by contacting the hostgator support staff since it's a feature now in our cpanel. Less work for you anyways. :p

    Thanks for the reply though.

Don't turn on the Rocket Loader. It seems to not work for IE 8 users.

Can you give more information about it and how it works, how can a newbie like me get to use it?
