Hey guys, I've recently registererd a domain name that is a whopping 28 letters long. It's stacked with 4 of my keywords and is, at the moment, ranking high with MSN and my site isn't even done yet. I expect to launch the site at the end of this week but before I do I'm wondering if a 28 character long domain name is just ridiculous? Thanks, Kirsty
Depends on what exactly is your domain name. If it is something which is easy to remember fine otherwise , not too good IMO. Btw, hows this http://www.thelongestdomainnameintheworldandthensomeandthensomemoreandmore.com/
I really dont like domains over 12-14 characters long. thisishowlong28charactersis! Wow, to long in my opinion. However, if it ranks well, it might be an option. Register a similar name thats much shorter and run dual domain names. 1 easy to remember / type in and 1 for search engine rankings. Never done it and I dont know much about it, but it seems like an option. Good luck.
Does stacking keywords into a domain really help or does it just dilute the power of less (but more significant) keywords.
you gonna get search engine traffic but little repeat visitors. . .I suggest a "bookmark this page" button or popup or something to make it sticky . ..
It's only too long if people can't be bothered typing 83 gazillion characters. Especially if they have code characters in there too! Like mydomian-woops-spelt-it-wrong-should-be-domain-there-thats-better.com?do-something23?=#12a2aa2312a/keep-it-going.asp
The length of a domain depends on its uses. If you are only using it for SE placement than there is nothing wrong with it. Just don't print it on bumper stickers.
I think if you depend on type-ins, a domain name which is difficult to read or type or prone to typos would not be too good. If you depend on bookmarks and search engines, it probably makes no difference.
I personally look for domains that are under 15 chars. Although users these days are using bookmarks more....believe it or not most users surf via type in. So the shorter the better. I think once you get over 15 chars you are very prone to misspellings/typos which lead to lost/annoyed users.
