Selecting a Domain Name

So I was just wondering how to select my niche domain because the exact keywords are already hooked up by GoDaddy marketing. So let me start if off.

Let's say "How To Make A Cake" is a keyword I'm exactly focusing. The following are some points that I've seen before searching for my domain name.

    • Exact keyword HowToMakeACake.com/org/net is taken up by GoDaddy.
    • Competetor ranking #1 for this keyword uses the name HowToMakeACakeGuide.com

Now I have the following ideas but don't know which one would be the best.

    • How-to-make-a-cake.com
    • HowToMakeACakeInfo.com
    • TheHowToMakeACake.com ( doesn't sound right but does on the actual keyword, this is an example ).

What would be the best for SEO ? Thanks.

The first one looks the best option among the three. You can make i more niche by adding words like 'birthday' in between :)

    All the best.

Yeah but not sure if the dashes would act negatively to my keyword.

Not really, I have seen a blog with double dashes in its domain name standing on top @ Google on a competitive keyword :)

I don't think you should pick such a long name with so many hyphens in the name - it is just odd. Why not think of a better name? Something that has your keyword "cake" in it and is two or three words maximum without hyphens. How about cakerecipies.com? or howtocake.com etc. Think of something else but I would prefer you avoid hyphens and massive names.

That's a sad truth, long and exact keyword names in your domain niche always rank better.

Personally I don't like such long names. May be they rank better, but it looks too long and complicated. I like brand-domains. :)

There are a lot of factors for your site to rank better. I think it's a plus if you have the keyword on your domain.

    How about ehowtomakeacook.com ?

Some people believe gogle disregards an unknown word while ehow is considered as something definitely.

I don't prefer such a long domains. It is important to have some keyword in domain but it isn't crucial for top rankings. Maybe you should try to find some shorter domain with main keyword - cake in this case. Or just some brand domain name. If you want my vote for one of three you picked up my choice is definitely is How-to-make-a-cake.com

There should not be more than a single ( dash ) in domain name.

That's my personal verified experience :)

How-to-make-a-cake.com will have better rankings but for users it screams spam. Having great content and a relevant URL will help with rankings, I would find a cleaner/shorter domain but that's just me

ive never been a fan of over rich keyword domains, infact i dont think it'd be long before google start to penalise for this if you over seo your site too, take an example of the keyphrase dvds, i see atleast 9 other results before dvds.com.

I would reccommend looking for domain names with one word but make something that is easy to remember and if it gets big its easier to advertise

    eg: cakegenius

    cakes4dummies

    etc...
