I used it for my offline marketing as part of creating an online brand for my clients. If you've ever had any experience with micro-blogs, you'll feel right at home with it. Don't focus so much on creating long pieces of content that directly advertises your products or services - post interesting pieces that will draw the interests of people in your niche and link those posts back to your website. I will say that sharing content on tumblr the same way you should on Facebook or Twitter will get you positive results.
It doesn't work that well. I have a tumblr account with roughly 3000 followers. Your main audience will be teens which are not really interested in buying things. If you want to succeed at tumblr you either need to become very famous and/or have a product that is free (International CPL offers). I have made about $150 from from tumblr by using CPA and Fiverr.com.
