A question about wordpress credit backlink at footer? Please answer this...

    I am using wordpress in my many sites and I am making my own custom themes for my and for my client's sites. So I just wanted to know that If I myself made a custom theme for wordpress then is it necessary to give a backlink from footer to wordpress.org?

    I am in confusion, please guide me. I have seen many sites which are using wordpress and not giving backlink to wordpress specially which are using premium wordpress templates and which are using their own custom themes.

    You don't have to link to wordpress.org, but why not? Linking is polite. :)
