I am thinking of running a contest where the user provides me with the information required for a lead and then I enter in the lead information myself with the understanding that the end user knows that they are having their information passed on to the affiliate. I am doing this so I know who to give the prizes to. Has anyone else ever done it this way? Also, I am worried that something may be red-flagged because all of the forms will be filled out on my computer (same ip). I don't want to be stuck with eating the losses for buying the prizes and get nothing in return. Any comments would be much appreciated!
I wouldn't risk it I was you. Even if your intentions and actions are completely honest and honorable, it will nevertheless look too suspicious. It would be great if CJ let us see the IP address of each lead/sale generated. That way, you could easily confirm a person's identity for a contest, etc. I was actually using an IP confirmation methodology for my free domain name giveaway last year, but I had to end it after I found out that a participant was using IP cloaking submit multiple entries to my contest. Scammers: they ruin the fun for everyone. The folks who pay me for credit card sales let me see each IP address, which is great because I can see what region sales are coming from, etc. As always, IMO.
AmCy, Thanks for the input. So do you think the contest is ok and not entering in the information myself, or do you think both should be scrapped? Thanks, Titan
Personally, I would also make sure that CJ and/or the Program itself knew you were doing it otherwise it may leader to the leads becoming invalid if their all coming from your IP
Lazy, I did do that, however cj hasn't been the fastest at getting me a response. I just emailed the affiliate today, hopefully I will get a response. Yeah it would suck to spend the money on the prizes, have the leads show up and then have them taken away for suspicion of fraud.
Contest alone: if the merchant is OK with it then I guess it's all good. But it's not easy getting those merchants to respond to emails.
