Sometimes I receive submissions such as "Car Insurance" or "Law Degrees" which are very general, of course the submitter is trying to target that keyword.. but with more than one submission that can include the very general keyword as title, and to aim for a more quality directory listing, do you change the title to "Company Name Car Insurance" for more specificity or do you leave it as is?
The most important question to ask is if the listing deserves to be in your directory. If yes, are there other similar links that would complement this link? For example, if this one is about Law Degrees, might there be a good wikipedia article that would also be helpful in this category? Also, maybe there are some top schools that offer law degrees. If the whole site is about targeting keywords and does not serve the user that well, you might want to consider leaving it out of your directory. But regardless, make sure you are also adding quality listings, not just waiting for them to come to you, as this is the most common mistake people make.
you may allow people who submit website for featured listing have the right to use anchor text keyword title only. if you reject people using keyword title, highlight the rule on submission guideline page.
I sometimes leave it if the topic is one that I haven't seen too many good sites for but I usually change it to their site/company name. I don't use the submitted title as a reason to reject but it does make me look at the site a bit harder before accepting it.
Over 90% of your submissions will be anchor text titles, a decent directory owner/editor simply changes it to the correct business title.
If there are very general titles there is nothing much you can do but submit to them and hope that they get indexed and show up in the search results.
Agreed! I always change it to their real business/site name. I think it makes your directory look spammy when all of the listings are nothing but keywords.
