The colour and the advertising size must nicely blend in with your blog. Filter only the advertising that relevant to your context.
he's talking bout making people boring and feeling wanna get away from the page they landed on by clicking any link (could be ads)
Yeah thats why I'm asking if he knows that people click the ads to get away from a "boring" page from experience, think I would just click away from it personally.
This would be pretty dangerous as visitor loyalty can take a hit and then just for earning a few dimes the visitor count can go down?
There isn't really anything you can do to "make" people click on your ads as people click on ads if it spurs their interest. You can help to increase your odds of getting people to view your ads by doing things like keywords for the relevancy of ads vs the content on your blog, blending your ads to match the template of your blog (i.e. color scheme, background, etc.), placement and type of ads you use (i.e. banner ads, text ads, size, etc.). You'll have to play around with it for a while and monitor what works best for you.
I think placement and blending will help, but blending works only when the ads are really very very relevant to the content of the blog post. This is something that I miss a lot. The ads being displayed are so not related to the content that even a blind person can make out that they are not "relevant to the content". It's not once that its happening, it happens a lot. For example : my blog name if codekata and on a page where the c++0x is being discussed, i see ads related to martial arts training!! The relevant ads would have been related to c++ training. I have changed the meta tag to have the relevant keywords but that has not really changed.I have seen now so many instance of the ads been off mark that am seriously considering if there is some other ads provider that can present more relevant ads. Any suggestions on this front? Update I have blended the ads on with the theme colors and fonts as much as possible and removed all possible demarcations between the content and the ads. Well one more lesson learn is that I need to make my blog posts a bit more lengthy. I can see the ads literally drowning my content, so one more moral of the story, add not just content, add more quality and a bit more lengthy content. Especially when content is just links to other sites, it makes your post quality to degrade. The content has to be atleast 500 words or more, else the ads are going to drown them.
Update : Not much change in CTR with the blending. I need more traffic and then probably I can think of getting more ad revenue. Checking out adbrite for now.
I have few suggestion for you. 1. You have to make sure about your ads. It should be related to your website content and subject. 2. Try to match the ads color and background with your website template. 3. Make one of the ad placement between title and content. 3. click on ads is doesn't matter at least. You have to drive more and more traffic to your website. Because also by impression you can earn.
