Hello All, Could anyone tell me what Activities or Tasks fall under Web Design and what under Web Development? From what I can think of Web Design includes: Website Design, PSD Design, Banner/Header Design, Logo Design, Blog Design, CMS Design Web Development includes: PSD to Any Conversion, PHP/MySQL Coding, Ecommerce Solutions, CMS Integration/Installations, Blog Integration/Installations, Script Installations What else could there be that can be grouped in the above categories? I think people may have different definitions, but in most cases they mean the same activities. Just look at the categories of many directories websites, they may put web development under web design. If you look at Stumbleupon, the top level category may be web development.
They are not. Design has to do with design and layout. Developing has to do with programming. Anyone who says different doesn't know what they're talking about. And watch those people line up right after this post.
Web Design contains the overall look an feel of the website, in technical aspects the front end and web development is the back end the main programming part. Programming is logic behind the design, it contains database connections and overall working of website.
Have any of you ever witnesses this... When you see a job description for a 'Graphic Designer' or 'Graphic Design' work and then it goes on to say 'will need to design and develop sites... have knowledge in MySQL, PHP, ASP.NET etc etc...' I mean... do they not know the difference between a Graphic designer, web designer, web developer and programmer. Come on now, Jeeeeeze.. It's like saying 'looking for a carpenter' > 'Must be able to build houses' -_- Anyway, rant over, back to work now =)
Web Design = Front-end "development", which involves more of the aesthetics/navigation of the website. Web Development = Back-end programming. Making sure content management systems (CMSs) and coding works behind the scenes so that web design can happen in the first place.
web design means create the design of the website.web development means create the software using programming languages.The various programing language for creating the software e.g asp.net,vb.net and php etc.

well, I'm totally agree with @drhowarddrfine. WebDesign means design a layout or PSD template design, user interface design or front end design, logo, banner, button etc and development means coding or programming, back end development, functions, scripts, CMS or any other apps Integration/Installations and ofcource uploading to your server or theme installation. got it?
i think designing is the psd file which we create in photoshop and the developing is that what we do in html, php etc regards

Why do people put so much importance in PSDs? It's poor practice to just convert PSDs and assume PS will have all the correct CSS and HTML for you. I've seen so many websites generated in PS that have very poor and invalid CSS/HTML. A decent web designer will create website graphics individually and piece them together manually.
