I'm in the process of creating a site for a product niche full of items between £10 and £25. With Amazons low commission rate, would you guys consider it worth the effort, something to not spend a lot of time on but do anyway or should I avoid and consider a better paying niche? The reason I ask, is a lot of these guides, or "WSO's" all mention the need for a product to be $100 or more (around £60). Would be interested to hear your opinion on this. Cheers.
If you are good at promoting the site then you may find it's worthwhile, lower price items are easier to convert so the sales volumes will be higher than you would get with higher priced items. Just beware of pouring too much time into something that doesn't pay off - record the amount of work you do against the returns and don't be afraid to just leave the site on autopilot if it's not working out.
Low price items have better selling rato. So this will help you to increase your commission rate to till you reach 8.5 or 10 depending on product line.
Take each niche in its own right. Some low priced products are not worth promoting but some are, because you can sell a lot of them. Some high priced products are not worth promoting because they are the type of thing that you need to see in real life in order to make a commitment (e.g. a diamond ring). Do proper research on the niche and the product before committing but dont be restricted by these kind of limits.
Good advice there from across the water (im in sunny Southport!). The search volume is there, and I've got a decent domain and I'm confident I can get it ranked in all the right places so I'll stick at it. Cheers.
Go for it and let us know the results! I am actually in Ibiza at the moment but Blackpool is my hometown. I like to visit Southport and have some good friends there
The right thing to do is to sell lower priced items in bulk even though their commissions are low. This is to increase item numbers sold so as to increase the commission percentage which varies according to number of items sold.
This is another good point - the more items you sell, the higher your percentage. So it is worth selling lower priced items in order to increase the commissions across all your items
I've got a couple of CPA offers for the site also, dont know whether I'll market them on the site directly or build a list and market them to that instead.
I don't think that price really matters. Some guides advocate using low-priced items so that a visitor might buy more goods with one visit. I've not yet made very many sales through my sites though so this may not be quite the way it is.
It doesn't really matter. Just get visitors to the Amazon site. If you promote socks and they buy fishing poles underneath your affiliate link within 24 hours, you're still going to earn from them.
I used to promote video games through Amazon and got very little joy. I now only promote products like exercise equipment, laptops, TV's, netbooks........ that are at least £200, have good recent feedback and have low competition or limited data with Google and what a difference that has made. Sales of nearly £1700 in three weeks and an 8% conversion rate. Mark
The highest price of anything I promote is around $60. However on a few occasions people have ended up buying 32 inch TVs!
