From last week i am really confuse with the rankings. When i checked my clinet's keyword rank it is on 18th But he is saying it's on 22. I felt i have done something wrong so i checked that rank in 3 different computer. And also in two different cities. Now I want to know what is the actual funda behind it. Can anybody tell this?
Make sure you opt out g**gle personal search history, clear cookies, don't use g**gletoolbar, etc. more to read: hxxx://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=7887c0b025ac67f9&hl=en
location is probably the culprit. if the client is in the US and you are in another country, chances are your rankings will differ. i get very different ranking between my local google and google.com. your best bet is to use a tool/service that checks ranking in the same location as your clients.
I think when you checked the ranking he was log-in with his email address possible with his gmail ID therefor he got different result.
To solve such kind of problems try to use tools like http://www.tools4google.com/search-google-position/keyword_tracking.php Here you can see real position of your website in google. The more convinient tool is Free Monitor for Google
You can use cuterank, it is the most accurate i have seen. Or use another browser without loging in google account and with cleared cookies.
Yes, it happen. Client is searching the keyword from different county or different state, as it changes the google data center and gives you the different result. To avoid this type of confusion first clear cookies from the browser select country from the advance search if client is from different country.
oh, its normal! maybe you use google.com, he use google.co.uk, or your result from differ data center.
Happens all the time, just use a third party tool. Google actually tells you your keyword rank in google webmaster tools, but they have been wildly inaccurate as far as I can tell.
Fantastic site, I used an alternative but will definitely switching to this. My day on DP has been a useful one, this is the second little gem I have found today. Thanks. As for the post, why don't you just open a thread asking random people to check and post their results, then show the user this? Sometimes a website just isn't enough, but 10/15 people telling him otherwise might help.
Only the first 10 results are most stable since those results are cached. The second page (#11-20) and other pages are not cached. Because most of the users don't go to those pages and caching has a cost. Which machine can cache millions of search results for each keyword/phrase? All the pages except the first pages are dynamic. So, any site may drop from #18 to #22 in a few minutes. It's quite normal. You can not see the same fast movements between the first 10 results.
A real seo expert should know about a little thing called GEO IP and that rankings differ/are influenced by browser used or being or not logged in google account But i guess you knew that allready you SEO "expert" ...
checking from different computers might not help, just use some online tool like rankpay.com and it will tell you the real things.
These days keywords ranking can't be confirmed as on daily basis ranking is changing but certain website ranking never change i don't know why. Like my competitor website is ranking on first position for last 6 month never gone down..... Why he doesnot have good contents but surly have paid backlinks....
now days their are many fluctuation between keyword position. Google started indexing the content on the ip based. Please take a look by different location. you will find the keywords ranking has too much of difference google postion.
