Out of interest, would anyone who's made a bid care to share how they intend to make the link pay (if successful)?

To put it another way, how do you turn a $x,xxx temporary link into $x,xxx+++ in the limited time that the link is providing traffic and boosting rankings?

its $350 not 3500$... first of all. Second It's a PR9 site and if your site has anything closely related to phpbb forums then all your hits from that site would be targeted traffic. I would do it but my site isn't related to phpbb forums.

Wow, that's kind of an ironic response, coming from someone who was trying to get others to give the same type of information.

    I told you so, didn't I?

Well no one will ever say right? No one wants to be outbid by $1 and/or drive their own price up :)

It's one thing to discuss bids before it is awarded. It's quite another afterwards. IMO, it is not appropriate to ask what his winning bid was.

Congrats, thewebhostingdir, on winning the bid. :)

OK, so tell me again how what you asked is different from the response that you're not giving? (notice your emphasis on *successful bidder*)

And now that you are on the opposite side of the fence, do you see the point that I was trying to make? How do you like it when someone asks you the question?

    :)

It's not worth discussing any further. I'm not trying to pick a fight - just to get you to realize the point that I was trying to make earlier, and why it's altogether inappropriate to ask somebody what their bidding price is/was.

The point played itself out in this thread, and I just wanted you to take note of it. Congratulations on your bid.

Saw that, but appears to be just on the PR8 download page, graphic only. For tech traffic it'd probably still be good.

He said year, not month so he was correct (well technically it is $4200 but you get the idea)

When I go to bid says it must be more than 200 a month lol but I bet you will have to bid a lot more than that.

Well it doesn't have nothing to do with traffic.. they are loosely correlated.

For instance, if you search for "dog poo", I think all but one of the top ten results has some PR on the page --

    http://www.google.com/search?q=dog+poo

If you skip down to results 101 to 110, the average PR is a lot lower.

All else being equal if there are two similar pages and one is a PR8 and the other is a PR4 the PR8 page will be higher in the serps.

Also, it is believe that a higher PR will mean a site gets crawled deeper (more pages indexed) and more often. These translate into more traffic.

It's true that PageRank does not equal traffic, but they are correlated.

Spending 2000 a month on a PR 9 ins a huge waste of money if you are expecting an increase in rankings.

Google doesn't give the link much weight cause it isn't natural (located at the footer) and the link isn't aged so it counts even less.

If you go to phpbb.com you will see links at the footer. Once of them is mysportsbook.com That link has been there for as long as I can recall (about a year) and it STILL doesn't rank top 10 in google or yahoo for "online sportsbook" which is the anchor text for the links.

Firsthand proof those links are a waste of money. They DONT help your rankings cause google knows they are artificial.
