Sky Films Logo Contest - $50!

Discussion in 'Design Contests' started by Astroman, Jun 16, 2011.

After some nice entries with my recent RC Flying contest, I thought I would run another one for my new Sky Films site.

This competition is to design a logo for my new website, Sky Films, which will be about low altitude aerial photography using radio controlled quadcopters, drones and blimps.

The current website is here: Sky Films

I would like the logo to incorporte the name 'Sky Films' and/or possibly 'skyfilms.co.uk' and 'Aerial Photography and Video' with some kind of rc flying and filming motif.

You can use the clouds and colors from the current website header, or ignore them/make a badge type logo that could be stamped over the top and on any background.

The competition starts now and will end on Friday 16th June (tomorrow) at 8PM GMT +1 (i.e. British Summer Time) - just in time for the winner to collect their $50 (via Paypal) for the weekend.

I will interact with posters as we go to give feedback.

    Thanks and good luck.

JMP Designs, it's nice and tidy and the idea comes across, I am a little worried that the film motif (i.e. the old ribbon type with holes in) is a bit too much of a cliche. Though I agree it does, unmistakably, say film - it just feels a bit outdated when it's all about digital video and photography these days?

loreliesGFX, I like the style of your logo, the only part I don't really like is that super old fashioned movie camera. I'm looking more towards spy in the sky type cameras than 1920's Hollywood. I do like it though apart from the camera, but it would need something else in there if you took the camera away.

Nora, nice diagram of a quadcopter. I'm not sure I like the idea of the separation of image and text though, if that makes any sense? Also, most people don't know what a quadcopter is so I'm not sure they would understand what the picture is?

If it were possible to somehow convey the idea of a drone/sky-mounted camera looking down that would be great.

Hi, I do not consider competition entries via PM, it's not fair to everyone else. I mean, I could decide not to bother letting someone win and say 'oh yeah, someone via private message won, never mind everyone - bad luck'..

good designer, I really like the quadcopter and camera diagrams, they're best ones so far. I like the idea of the one on the left in your second post, with the Sky Films set at a perspective to that it looks like the ground and the camera is filming it. I think if you stick with that one and just make a few little variations in colour and shape it would be great. I prefer the camera on that one to the colour version next to it by the way.

Nora, that's definitely better. I think if the props were bigger with some legs sticking down and the camera smaller it might work better still.

oreliesGFX, it's a really good design but I'm not sure it says 'aerial photography. Though it's obvious to me what it is, the target might be misinterpreted as a gun target.

To everyone, I like logos that sort of encompass themselves, so you could stick them on a round or oblong badge. The one I chose to win last time is on the top of this site RC Flying, so you can see I like the text/message and image all sort of wrapped up and being part of each other - if that makes sense?

P.S. good designer's one on the left in the second post is my favourite so far. Then perhaps Nora's top one in the last post. If I was doing secret, covert survaillance katesrobyn's would be very good, but it doesn't really suit what I'm after.

katesrobyn, I can't really understand what's happening in that picture, looks a bit like a search and rescue helicopter?

good designer, The blue drone looks great, I do like the idea of the angled text idea but I'm not sure I actually like the text itself and the little corners?

uanl_82, the drone is really cool. I don't like the iris shutter bit though, I think it's another overly used cliche like the role of film motif. Also, I do like the text but it somehow seems seperate from the picture. If the picture and text were more in harmony, part of each other, it would be good I think.

Nora, that's getting there, but I have to say the same to you as uanl_82, it's like there's two halves, a picture and some text, and I would like it all to be a complete image/logo all in one - like on the rc flying site. The machine is cute though.

To be honest at the moment I would happily go with Nora's, uanl_82 or good designer's - I like them all for different reason and yet they're all not quite right, or maybe I'm finding it hard to put one above the other?

The competition has ended so I won't accept any new entries. However, I can't decide between uanl_82's last one and good designer's - for me they are both 1st. So, I could either pay half each for both and combine them, which I'm not sure you'd like. So I will let you each have a try at refining your entries to see if you can make me decide. I will decide on the spot as soon as I see your updates if I like them, or if there are no new updates by either of you by midday (UK) tomorrow I wil flip a coin and decide that way.

P.S. As a hint, uanl_82 - I don't like the propellers much, they look like explosions, and 'good designer' - I'm not that keen on the text.
