I'm looking to buy some pr domains, but when i do a search for link:www.domain.com in google, it doesn't find anything.

Is this a major problem, or just a little problem?
Would you buy something like this?

Maybe you should check with MSN, Google knows what the links are but doesn't show them sometimes. MSN on the other hand is pretty quick.

    Also, check for fraud pagerank:

Google Doesnt Tells all the things on how the pagerank is rated .

Though they have given weightage to PR System a lot but the website could really be having a Real PR 4 .

there are other ways to fake pagerank that cant be detected by that fruad pagerank checker. When buying a domain its good to know its history.

Fake page rank is a huge problem - I was looking for a PR site for a while and every one I found for sale was fake -- every single one. - And remember Google can remove PR if the site changes owner or content.

If it is not a site (parking does not count) in the internet archive (web.archive.org) I would not consider it -although the archive is over a year behind in their listings and thus not perfect.

    Fake Pagerank???
    How does someone fake pagerank?

I bought a domain and changed the entire topic of the site and it didn't lose pagerank.

They do a 301 redirect to a site like google. This inturn steals googles PR.

Personally i check alexa. If it's got a pr of 4 or higher it's going to be ranked. If it isnt you can assume its either 301ed or was just made recently. The later is that bad, though it seems sites that have been up longer have a far easier time getting and keeping PR.

Alexa can be manipulated fairly easily.

Just create a macro script which keeps on clicking through all your pages, put it on some server or on your computer and leave it on for a few days, your alexa ranking would have boosted when you check back. Therefore I never trust Alexa Rankings of any site.

Pagerank can be faked, but it cannot be obtained illegally, that is the good thing about Pagerank.

A Fake Pagerank caused by a 301 Redirect can be very easily seen through by even a 7 year old who knows how to type site:<domainname.tld> in Google.

If you suspect a site is having a fake pagerank, just go to Google and type in site:domainname.tld and search, if the result is the domain you searched for, then the pagerank should be fine, but if it shows another domain, then its fake. This happens because a 301 Redirect makes Googlebot go to another site which has Pagerank through the domain having the redirect, so Googlebot thinks both of the domains to be alike and assigns duplicate PR to the domain having the redirect as well.

But now that Googlebot thinks the domains are same, it indexes the site having the redirect as the site being redirected to, which is why we can see it through the "site:" search.

    Hope I helped.
