Hello Digital Pointers, So, people have been asking the same questions over and over again. This question was given by Kathy from Texas. Question: How do you build a niche site? And how long does it take? First, thank you Kathy for your amazing question. This single question was brought up at least 30 times just in single month. So, I decided to do some live demonstration on picking a niche domain name, and how much of work is actually involved in this painful process. Too many times people jump right in to building a site without even doing any type of research. Everything is based on assumption rather than actual facts (numbers). So, rather than just talking and talking, let me run a quick experiment for all of us from scratch. First, pick your niche domain Duration: 1 hour Goal: Choose a potential name that will get 1 page on Google This process took me about 1 hour. After an hour, I found about 3 or 4 niche domain names, and then I narrowed it down to 1 niche domain name. Step 1: Start crawling up ideas by using Google prediction If you have no idea where to start, just start typing in 'how to' on Google search. Thanks to Google keyword prediction, it tells you popular keywords for you. That's right. Start typing in 'how to'.... 'g' or any other letters. I found a cool keyword. how to get rid of acne. After finding your niche keyword (long tail), go to step 2. Step 2: Evaluate the value of keywords on Adwords Tool Goal: find out three things 1) Competition 2) Local Monthly Search 3) CPC Again, this is a real time example. I am writing this as I am typing. Start evaluating these keywords. 1) Competition: look for low competition. Even though you have a great keyword or domain name, eve the exact match domain will be hard to get on the first page Google. Too much work will be involved. Always look for low competition as possible. 2) Local Monthly Search: look for high number. I wouldn't even bother looking at it anything that's lower than 10k searches per month. Also, make sure to look at Local Monthly Search. Local my friends. 3) CPC: you want anything higher than $2.00 (at least for me). Let say that CPC is at $2.00. This can be translated in to about 60 cents per click (close to 30%). Picking your domain name Again, this lesson is on building your NICHE WEBSITE not an authority site. Meaning, you are not trying to build an authority or branded website. Your only goal here is to pick rich keywords, and get it on first page Google. Duration: 1 hour Goal: Picking exact keywords, picking aged domain names (at least 2 years old) Only Step: Go to Godaddy.com and get yourself a nice domain name As mentioned above, you are looking for two things: 1) exact match keywords and 2) aged domain names. You will be surprise to see how many people are dumping their domain names left to right. You're not there to judge or to figure out why they are dumping them. Just get the one that you can generate income. After searching for the exact match, of course, it was not available. So, do I give up? Of course not. You can always find a way to get that keywords. So, did I get it? Of course. I bought this domain name with a very small price. 2 years old. Moving on. Setup your WP immediately Duration: 5 minutes I didn't even think twice. I setup as soon I got the domain, and I started to write my first article. Do I know anything about pimples? Not really. I start reading some articles about pimples, and there were tons of information on the site. WARNING: Do not duplicate!!! I say this now. Do not rephrase, copy, or even imitate content. You will need to fully digest the article and spit them out in your own words. Explain what you have learned. When you start rephrasing sentences, Google will not recognize them as a genuine site. Don't do it. Build your content Duration: 2 hours After launching my WP, I quickly start writing some content. I wrote total of 4 articles. Were they quality articles? They are so so. After I wrote these 4 articles, I checked my Ranking for my niche keywords "how to get rid of pimple" Here was my result after 3 HOURS: Here is my Google result after 3 Hours Conclusion Well, that is it for now. What am I going to do now? Get this site on 1st page Google by the end of this month. Start applying Google Adsense, and go for other keywords. I will keep you guys posted how everything went! Best of luck to everyone.
Nice tutorial. But i doubt it as a MFA site which will eventually die in long run. Still keyword research idea is important, niche sites developed to huge one will profit in long period of time.
My pleasure. I'm glad that it was helpful. Continuing with this experiment, I will keep everyone updated if Rank 1 really translates to solid monetization. If so, how much it's generating with a single keyword. Hopefully, I can start monetizing within one month. Thanks again! Jino
This would ideally have been an article on my own blog !! Thanks for selflessly sharing it for others....... I think a few more points would have made this into a killer ebook for niche marketing , Points like How to weed out niches based on marketability instead of just competition : for example - the keyword "blogs" is a moderate to low competition keyword according to adwords, so are branded names like "linkedin" and so on ..... Someone would easily mistake this for a low competition keyword not realizing that its not low competition because it has not been tapped yet , but because the market share has already been consumed by the brand and its impossible to rank for it.... How to find marketability Viz - volume and ROI on real life products and affiliates related to the niche (these are going to be your direct adsense sponsors anyway even if you don't put up affiliate ads) How many articles to post depending on competition How to produce content for a niche site (frankly since spinning does not work , you will need to hire a writer to produce content if you are planning to make multiple sites) How to do link building for a niche site Best ad placement How to protect your niche site rankings How to make sure the domain stays on rank 1 even if linkbuilding is stopped to receive pure passive income while moving on to another niche . All being said , I would like to say , the method of niche marketing is solid .... Around 10 niche sites and some patience means you are already raking in around 1500$ monthly only as a source of passive income . This will keep increasing as and when you make more and more sites .... This is the business model I follow .
hi, thanks for a very beautiful explanation !!! I have a query for you ? 1.You have taken a keyword of having searches around 50,000 locally....how much visits per day and how many clicks per day we may generate through this ? to understand the question in others words....if i start a niche site like this how much i can earn through this ? an approx value..i know it depends on the CPC...assumes its .25 - .50 thanks
Nice tutorial you written there, as opposed to the other people with the PM me for the secret topics.
Good article, however the use of the competition on the keyword tool is a little deceptive. In reality, you'd never use this to determine competition - better ways would be to Google your keyword with and without quotes, also use inurl, intitle and inanchor to your utmost advantage.
Hi all, I have received some handful of interesting questions from the community about finding the niche keywords. I will try to come up with another posting sometime this week. Next one is going to be pretty interesting. I will be sharing about: 1) finding niche keywords and tools that I use; 2) testing your niche site without wasting your whole energy; 3) how to expand your quality content (free and pay); 4) AdSense monetization Thank you all! Regards, Jino
@chococat518 so the only way is to sign up is to call adowrds and talk to a sale person? I am not planning on spending money on adwords.
Hi Chococat, Do you typically base search volume on broad keyword matches in Google Keyword Tool? I've had much more luck basing my search volume on exact match (which is 390 local monthly in this case). I used to base sites around broad match and found myself frequently disappointed when the search volume was no where near as high.
