My suggestion would be not to "copy" or "copy and paste" anything from any website. You can gather information (research) and put it into your own words for your site to keep you safe. If you want to give credit where credit is deserved, you can credit them within the site by saying this information was obtained from such and such but don't copy.
sorry guys i saw the forum sticky later. can the moderators pls move it to appropriate forum / delete it.
I don't know what Yahoo's rules are but I can tell you that quite often the content posted as answers is stolen. One of my articles often gets cut/pasted as an answer. One person went so far as to claim her daughter wrote it. It looks like there's feeds of some kind based on my experience. The feeds appear to get updated if there is some sort of copyright dispute like mine - usually the entire question is removed. The risk for you is that if you cut/paste something that is stolen material, you now are infringing on someone's copyright as well.
AFAIK the copyright on yahoo answers belongs to the posters according to their T&Cs. This generally means you are unlikely to get chased for cutting and pasting it, unless you steal content posted by some sort of internet vigilante loony. HOWEVER, it won't do you any good, because it is dupe content and exists on Yahoo.com, so ask yourself - which site will Google choose as the authoritative source of this dupe content? yahoo? Or your 2 cent blog? Doh.
Putting aside the issue of whether its legal or not I think original information from you is the best.Copy pasting is not a good idea even it is seems easy.
Indeed. It is still best to do rewriting if you want to copy it. Nevertheless, keeping the authenticity of your content is the perfect thing to do.
I don't think it could get you into any trouble as long as you make it appear in qoutes (" and ") and give credit, like include the link to where you got the paragraph/answer. This is to let your readers know that the information they are reading did not come from you directly, bot from another source. If you want to make it appear as part of your own article, then I suggest you rephrase it and do not copy/paste.
What makes you think that sticking a backlink on there absolves you from copyright infringement laws, that can carry penalties of thousands of dollars per instance???
