The NIV is a joke . We already have excellent versions dating back centuries . The NIV removes critical words and paragraphs . IMHO the NIV is more of a anti-Christian tool then a Bible translation .

You missed the point of his comment. He meant that if you believe in a religion, you can't just pick out the sweet parts of it. Same goes for everything, politics and so on. You have to aknowledge that the religion you believe in has a downside as well. Sure, you are free to choose what religion you want to believe in, or no religion at all if you want.
