Hi all. I am new to wordpress. I just launched my website but I noticed that A lot of people are talking about plugins. I checked on my settings and I didn't see it on mine. Any suggestions or advice? I want to be able to make use of the available plug ins.

    Thanks!

I just did that but I got an error page. Is there any programs I need to have on my computer to make it work? I was reading on wordpress support page, is it true that I have to install an FTP, PHP server, and LINUX in order to install plugins?

No you don't need FTP, PHP Server and Linux in order to install pluggins
what all you have to do is: download pluggins from WP site and save them to your computer
Go to WP admin panel and under plugins in the left hand side click on "Add new". once you do that
It will ask you to browse the plugin file. just browse the file and click install/upload

    Done!

Thanks for guiding me through. i did that and I don't have any plugins section on my dashboard. Is it dependent on the theme you are using? Or Internet browser maybe? I am using Google Chrome.

    thanks for your tips ;)

When you first login to your wordpress website you are at the Dashboard. Look down the menu on the left and look for plugins. You might have to click on the down arrow next to "plugins" to open up that part of the menu. Once you have the "Plugins" menu open, "Add New" is the second item. Click on it and then follow the screen prompts. You will be able to install plugins from that screen. Once they are installed, you can access them from the first item in the "Plugins" menu. It is called "Plugins". You can activate, deactivate and/or delete plugins from that screen. Good luck.

Thanks for that link. I will check it out. I think I figured out the problem. I paid wordpress for domain and DNS mapping for 17USD per year.. but I was told by a friend that if I should have gotten a web hosting package, everything should be included and I should automatically see those plug in options. is that right?

ANybody of you here knows of a reliable yet affordable web hosting site?

mightyheart just find a host that will help and support you with setting up wordpress and making any tweaks to it. It becomes much easier once you've used it for a little while.

No wonder you seem don't understand how to add plugins to your wordpress website, even though a lot of people have been telling you how to add plugins in details. If you just pay for the domain and the DNS mapping for 17 dollars, then it is impossible to add plugins to your website since wordpress don't allow you to do that. You definitely went to the wrong website. If you want to add heaps of functionality to your website, don't go to wordpress.com. Instead, you should go to www.wordpress.org
where you will find instructions as to how you should find the right webhosting and install wordpress platform on your domain. I suggest you to go to some reliable website hostings such as hostgator.com or justhost.com. You can transfer the domain that you purchased before to your webhosting. Some webhosting company even offer you with free domain for the first year. You can also go to webhostingreviews.com just to give you some ideas on some comparisons between big webhosting companies.

Don't worry too much about this. I did the same thing as well before i knew the truth :) But I cancelled it within 2 days and I got full refund.
