Hi, i dont know much about joomla and magento, can anyone tell me the diffrence between them? are these both ecommerce software ?
No only magento is for ecommerce. Joomla is just content management system. But there is some components, which you can use to make joomla into ecommerce. for example virtuemart is very good component.
Joomla is not an ecommerce but it can be with installing a shopping cart extension. IF you are going for an ecommerce website better use magento. If you are going for your business website and selling a couple products on it its ok to use joomla
So just to be clear, if one is using magento, there is no need to use either joomla or drupal or some other solution since the magento one is good enough and is specifically targeted toward an ecommerce solution. Is that right?
I worked with Joomla and Magento. I prefer to use the second CMS. You will get more advantages using it.
I've been using Joomla for over a year now and at work we have set up about 4 or 5 e-commerce websites using it. It's incredible how well it works with the Virtuemart plugin and the websites take a very professional look if time is spent on them. I can't comment on Magento although I have heard good things but I'm not looking to change as Joomla works so well for myself and my colleagues.
There are many out there. I think you can have a magento install within a joomla site. Probably the way to go unless you are doing a site thats strictly ecommerce?
Pro: Price Joomla is 100% free. All you need is your own web hosting space, and you have the ability to use Joomla. Pro: Templates Even though Joomla does not allow you the luxury of designing your own graphics or layout, there are hundreds of thousands of templates available for Joomla on the internet. They range from very simple to very complex. There are are thousands of different styles, from artistic to professional, fun and upbeat to muted and sophisticated. Pro: Ease of Use Joomla is very easy to learn to use if you have the time and effort to devote to it. There are hundreds of Joomla forums, tutorials, and very helpful communities that will be more than happy to teach you how to use Joomla to manage your website and its content. Expect to spend a little bit of time reading about Joomla and any add ons you get for it. Pro: Thousands of Plug In Extensions One of the nicest things about Joomla is that there are thousands and thousands of plug in extensions for download. These extensions are often plug-and-play, or require a minimum amount of configuring, and handle just about anything you would need, including showing Twitter feeds, social network updating, calendars plug ins, and much more! One of the best things is that often these extensions are free, or can be purchased for under $20. Con: Customization While you don't lose a lot of customization, it should be noted that you will lose a little when using Joomla. Most notable is that to handle certain scripts and functions, Joomla requires a plug in of some sort of extension to work. You also may not be able to organize things in the way you are accustom to, which does take away a little control that traditional web design gives. Con: Takes Time to Learn While Joomla is incredibly easy to learn it does take time to learn, especially if you are new to web design. You are expected to spend a fair amount of time reading about how to work with Joomla and its extensions and templates. If you need to quickly build a website, it is advised that you look at several Joomla tutorials and templates, though the best way to learn is to give yourself a while to just play with the software to see how it works.
Magento is built specifically for ecommerce and is a better choice if you have the time to learn it or the expertise- it is more challenging than Joomla. Virtuemart is OK, but built with old code.
Magento is build for E-commerce websites but the Joomla is a language of programming both are different things..
Joomla and Magento both is open source product and using for cms web development. You can use it for Ecommerce store integration or web development.
One of the main differences between Joomla and Magento. Joomla is use to make websites and while Magento is that can be used to design various websites ranging from social sites to E-commerce websites.
Magento is the ecommerce system and Joomla is CMS actually. Magento also has CMS features to allow developers set up pages easily. However, if you are looking at building up a ecommerce site, Joomla + VirtueMart and Magento can be both the choice. But if you are looking at having multiple shops, Magento will be the best choice. It really depends on your needs. Joomla is more than just having ecommerce function by integration with VirtueMart component. It can have much more other features like directory system, forum, blog, and with components like K2, a serious developer can build up very friendly search functions even based on its extra fields feature. For the basic functions of ecommerce, VirtueMart is good enough, things like coupon has already been there and also it supports many payment gateways. So, if you want more than ecommerce, Joomla is the choice, and by the way it is easier to manage the page content in Joomla as well.
For creating web site / portal you can use joomla and Magento. For shopping website you can use Joomla and Magento. Best is use Joomla for website and Magento for Shopping portal. using vise versa is like designing website in paint.
