Dmoz is one of the best directory on net which is operated manually so your site will actually take years also to get submitted (provided they actually approve it)

And re-submitting your site only disadvantages it up to the point of it being banned as spam. So you have done as much as you can to promote your site at DMOZ, leave it alone and come back in a few months, years and see if it has been listed.

So how do we know if they approved it or not? Should we come back in a year and if not listed, then what?

I have given up on DMOZ. If it happens it happens. I can get a good ranking without it.

Come back the year after, and then come back the year after........and then come back the year after......and then come back the year after.

There is nothing more you can do if you have suggested a site to promote the site at DMOZ. If is is guideline compliant it will be listed when an editor volunteers to edit that section of the directory and chooses to use the suggestions pool. When will that be, how long is a piece of string? Well that long. Who knows when an editor will make that choice, we certainly do not have enough editors volunteering to edit to list all the sites on the net and editors can choose if they want to use suggested sites or find their own. You would not believe how much spam comes into some categories and mostly few editors want to work in them. We are volunteers working in our spare time.

Oh, by the way, if you re-submit it can look as though it is a new site so an editor working date order in suggestions might not bother with the newer ones and submit enough and you will be seen as spam.......and banned.

    :)

But don't forget so much, that you try to submit again after half year.

Do NOT re-submit a site. It can take from a few days to a few years for a site to get a review for a possible listing. Re-submitting can dissadvantage the site as the old date stamp is overwritten and too many re-submissions can see the site as spam and be deleted and banned. DMOZ does not lose them but they have to wait for a volunteer to edit that section and choose to use suggestions. If it is guideline compliant it will be listed ........sometime. But no one can predict when.

Indeed. It's best just to forget it to begin with.

You said in another post recently that it was OK to submit a second time under certain conditions. Which is it?

If you have good content in you site and updated regularly in a year you have good rank of your own without Dmoz.

I remember submitting to DMOZ back in 2008. At the same time i also purchased a yahoo directory listing. Needless to say my site has a PR4. And my DMOZ listing is yet to be approved. Just submit and forget, as everyone else says!

Half a year.. alright.. I submitted the site quite a while ago and this thread kind of made me revisit Dmoz. But now I forgot which category I applied to. So.. what are my chances if I resubmit again? Also, would it help if the category editor be contacted and request to approve the listing?

So why would he think that your site needs special attention? Do you think you are the only person who has the hugely unique thought of emailing the Editor?

You've suggested the site, you can do nothing other than shoot yourself in the foot......like you have read in here a thousand times, just move on and forget about it. What will be will be :(

I suppose no harm in trying. Anyways, noticed that there's just one editor per category, which really sucks unlike wikipedia. I guess it's time to move on to 'greener pastures'
