Hello guys, I want to open a new forum about bodybuilding, but it has a lot of competition. I can find at least 10 similar sites in Google. Should I go create that forum or not? Thanks
If it interests you and you have knowledge in the area, you should go for it. Don't let other sites hold you back!
Are you passionate about the subject? If so, then competition shouldn't scare you, because you love what you are doing and will be able to put in a lot more effort than someone who isn't passionate about the subject.
Totally with the previous two posters. If it is something that you know and love go for it. That kind of site that is associated with a passion should be motivated by that passion, not by your competitors. Sure it may take some excellent SEO but do what you got to do.
You could maybe find an angle that is not already covered or go super specialised that would help reduce the competition.
Sure, if you can provide enough good content/wait a lot and target not so HIGH competition keywords, you can do it. Big forums don't have competition because people are afraid to target high competition, but in the end nowhere is tons of competition, you just have to figure it out.
I think you should first build a blog around your topic and niche promote it well, post some good content on it so that you can have a good subscriber base to your blog and then you build a forum around your blog/site and in that way you would have immediate forum members who were initially had subscribed to your blog. Building and managing a forum is time consuming task, but it'll be profitable in the long run if you manage to build a solid community at your site.
it depends on how can you compete to rank to get traffic but if you feel you cant then dont go. It will only a waste of time if you cant compete some major site to get those traffic. I better target small niche which i am proud of ranking them
Gaining visits to any site at its beginning is very difficult. You have to advertise anywhere you can. Google Webmaster Central can help with Google listings. Yahoo! and Bing also have similar services. In addition, you can find other music forums and post there about what your forum will specifically be about. You can also just tell people in person and ask them to spread the word.
If you're really interested in the are, then go for it. Don't worry about the competition you've. We can do better when we've competition. And my suggestion is choose the best domain name (a right keyword in it). all the very best
It all depends if you can create a body building forum that has lots of traffic to compete with the rest
you might consider going into a sub niche of body building. that would allow you to have far less competition and make it easier to get things started.
I agree here. A blog would be easier to follow, and you could build a base of readers. When you launch your forum, they would be easier to keep and contribute in your forum. If you're using wordpress, I believe ForumPress is still around. It's a way to integrate a forum into your blog without changing any of your blogs appearance. If you run into the problem with sidebars like I did, just google how to get rid of sidebars in your template. Idk how efficient ForumPress is SEO-wise, but it's something to look in to.
It's harder to start a blog then you may think. Creating it is easy but getting the traffc and commuity there is hard and will involve alot of SEO and conversations between yourself using multiple accounts, no-one signs up to a forum with 0 posts or 0 topics or similar, 1 topics = forum rules
Target a smaller niche of bodybuilding. There are already a lot of established bodybuilding sites. Ask yourself. Let's say that you're a bodybuilder. Which one will you join? A new, smaller forum? Or a more established forum with tens of thousands of members?
Creating a blog will be a wise decision. Because as there is high competition with other forums, so at first build your visitors base, then only think about making forums to target those visitors. But make sure that the blog posts are natural, authentic, rich in content & no duplicate content.
