Just because the state spends stupidly does not mean uncontrolled immigration is not damaging our economy. Immigration is controlled specifically because it has an impact on the economy and the state budgets. I'd personally be thrilled to do away with all our very expensive social programs for the poor and go back to unrestricted immigration(1800's style), but we both know that aint gonna happen. Back in the day, it was send us your poor and down troden, they came to the country and worked obscene hours in horrible working conditions with absolutely zero government handouts for the idea of achieving a piece of the American Dream. Now they come in droves, move to inner city neighborhoods where English is not even spoken, live on government handouts and free California medical care for the poor while working under the table and not paying taxes. The kids fill up the school systems and, more often than not, join a gang, commit a violent crime, and wind up in our prison system. Controlled immigration allows the tide of immigrants to be stemmed when economic conditions and state budgets for socialized welfare programs(School, food, housing, and medical care) are tight. The problem with the states sharing a border with Mexico is that the throttle is practically non-functional. I'm also having difficulty understanding how you relate massive state employee pensions in any way to "Capitalist ways". Preaching to the choir on that one man. I'm actually opposed to the death penalty in California for exactly that reason. Texas bags and tags them rather quickly, which I absolutely love, but we here in California are full up with bleeding heart liberals who don't mind blocking the law of the land by burning taxpayer dollars. Us is going to remain a superpower for the next few decades but after that countries like Germany japan India etc are going to rise. Us may not be thirld world but one of the countries i said will be head to head with Us. The bottom line is that Us will be displaced from its sole superpower status.
