Hello! Can you please review this new Visual Community: http://www.zoomarium.com ? If you can place there a couple of pictures and tell, how the process looks to you, I will be grateful to you! (If you are reluctant to register, just login with user "guest", no password required). Regards, Leo
The site has a very unique idea, which I think is great. It would be great if the FAQs and other help information could be made available as ordinary pages instead of the zoom format; it's a little tedious to do all that zooming, clicking and dragging just to figure out how the site works. I had some trouble uploading my image. I logged in as 'guest', and tried to upload my avatar, but all I see is this blue box outlining where my image should be. It could be because I didn't read the instructions properly.
Thanks for your attempt using the site! You are right, it is a bit hard to understand its uploading interface. The reason for this is that compared to websites like Flickr or Facebook, in Zoomarium you need not just upload photo, but also position it. Zoomarium is a huge board of visual information on which your photo will be a tiny piece. Once you uploaded the photo, it floats in the middle of the screen within a red frame. You need to zoom-in and drag the content of the board in order to position your photo in the place where you like. For instance, near another photo or overlap with another photos. (Compare to Facebook where you just upload your photo and the Facebook automatically places it). There is also another thing to mention: in order to defend already existing content from destroying you cannot place your image on top of already existing images of another user. So if this is your first photo you can only place it in a white space (which there is plenty of at the moment). Once you've placed your first photo, the next one can be placed near it, behind or in front of it, partially or fully overlapped. Adding more and more photos you can come to something like this: http://www.zoomarium.com/index.php?...w=0.044646334347860236&h=0.018113925905964483 What I think is good in Zoomarium (hope this in not only my own opinion) is that you are not limited or bound to anything. You can create boards of visual information which are not just 2D, but 3D, because you can place photos on different zoom. Try to zoom into the tiny image here: http://www.zoomarium.com/index.php?...&w=0.010383310443954397&h=0.00421272023308743 and you will see that it is of a large resolution. You have rich abilities for design and creativity and I think the good point is that this creativity can be collective. People can create together and this is also kind of socializing.
