    I guess the way how he get his traffic from ebay is by selling a few items similar on ebay and then link to his website in his "About me" site on ebay which is allowed as long as he don't encourage people to go to his site. Another way would be to write reviews on the review section of ebay about his product and similar ones and get traffic by that way, so its not a new or unknown way, there are plenty of articles about that kind of website Promotion available when you search in google
