Google Alerts are a simple and free way to get regular updates about something that interests you like Google Alerts will send you an email then any time a new web page appears in the top 20 web results or top 10 news results for the terms you specify. Basically it is good for updated.

according to my knowledge By receiving alerts on important key words related to your industry, you can be on top of any sudden changes and react accordingly. By the time your competition realizes what’s happening they will be scrambling to catch up to you

I've been using it for about 9 months now. It's kind of spammy, but you do get some useful info from the results too.

Google Alerts are invaluable to me... Every time somebody on a forum says something about a product I sell or an initiative I am involved in, I hear it. It really allows me to stay on top of things. In my opinion, everybody who does business on the internet should have a couple set up. :)

You can get alerts from Google to a related search term. Suppose you've chosen Email Marketing then when anyone add a new content or a site contain the term email marketing you'll receive alerts for it...

I am not so sure but I have heard that they used google alerts to know when a certain keyword is being discussed around the web. Smart move by any one who wants to promote something or get a glimpse of what the others are thinking about your site/product.

    Hi,
i am agree with you but another benefit is this you can check the status of your compitator by using the Google alerts .. When you setup the Key word of your compitator at Google alerts easily you can check the status ...

I set up Google Alerts for all of the primary keywords for my websites and blogs. This keeps me informed of activity in my niches and gives me a continuous source of material for new content. I don't read all of the alerts every day; it would be too time consuming. But, instead, filter and file them so that I can go back and review the alerts when I am updating a website. It's fairly easy to scan the alerts and find the ones that have something worthwhile.
