Facebook is the largest online social networking website, how can it not provide great traffic? You just need to learn to use it, obviously Facebook isn't going to bring tons of traffic to every niche (Despite having thousands of targeted users)

Facebook can perform miracles for your business promotion.... only if you know how to make the best use of it... many businesses had failed already, invested their precious time & money into getting viral on Facebook.... however, giving it a try is not a bad idea.... I would suggest go for it... but before you begin... make a concrete marketing strategy beforehand and a time frame to achieve your goals... otherwise you will invest lot of time to achieve nothing.

Facebook could work but your audience has to be really targeted to what you are promoting..

Facebook is great if you know how to promote, and how to get fans, and utilise their advertising service

Yes FaceBook is great to use, it must be used correctly or else as you say you will not see results, I found the Ad Campaigns on FaceBook useful, as you can specify the kinds of people that see your advertising.
Also FaceBook allows you to use the RSS feed from your page to Submit to Feed Readers.
Here is some info i posted in another thread on RSS Feeds, and it includes some information about FaceBook RSS feeds.

    hope this helps you out.

Also be sure to use your Information section on FaceBook correctly, and include links to your website.

I think facebook is more useful for local business, if you have a physical product you can promote in your local community or city through facebook you will get good results, as far as electronic products its not useful.

Creating a page of your webiste and product will also help you.

If you have a product or site that's already established use Quantcast to get exact demographics of the visitors and target your ads specifically to these parameters. Then use a good, targeted headline along with an eye catching image to draw prospects to your ad. If what you're selling applies, you'll make sales!

It has eyeballs but you have to figure out to get in front of the ones willing to take out their credit card. I have no data to back it up, but women will typically buy anything you can get in front of them and convince them they need.

It depends on many things but the bottom line is if you want to use it you will have to use it within it's guideline - FB is very strict on enforcing its terms and conditions.

There are people who found FB fantastic, they found a way to make it work, you'll need to test our your ways

Facebook can be a really good media to promote stuff, provided it is used effectively. This mostly depends on what kind of product you're offering to promote and the range of your targeted audience. Facebook can be used because it's relatively easy to promote your stuff especially when you can't afford to stretch your budget to spend on marketing.
