Hi, I have a HTML site that has good search engine rankings and I want to move it to a Wordpress site. I have used WP for the past two years with excellent results with my other domains. What I need to know is how to redirect the pages that are indexed in the search engines to my new WP install. I was told the redirection plugin, but I installed it and don't really understand it. The HTML site was formerly an Ecommerce site and now I'm converting it to affiliate and Adsense with WP. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Thanks for the quick reply! The search engine links that are presently in Google and other se's have internal html pages indexed (think individual products). I know I would have the same URL for the WP site, but I'm worried about losing the pages that are presently indexed in Google that aren't linked to the home or index page of the domain. Hopefully that explains it better.
Here's a step by step explanation and how to guide on setting up redirects. Just a warning though - if you have a lot of pages there is not a quick process - http://www.isitebuild.com/301-redirect.htm
Thanks for the link Civin. You are correct this site has 1000's of SE links and I was hoping a WP plugin might do the trick. Gotta at least hope. One other question - What is the best way to determine the exact links the SE's have indexed so I can create the 301 redirects? I know it, but I in Friday mode today.
Wordpress to another wordpress install or domain there is absolutely plugins for but to bring information on a current domain into wordpress. I believe there are some conversion plugins out there. Is the old html page running on any script or just straight html? If just html I haven't seen one (though I haven't looked for one in about 3 years) if from another script there may be one out there. For which pages are indexed... I have a great tool for that but the URL is at home and being Friday I can't make any promises to be able to respond with it until Sunday Hopefully someone else can grab you a good website to check before that time!
