Acitone will clean it right up. Just don't have it plugged in when you do that.

You should do an experiment if you are going to chuck it anyway... put the keyboard in water for like an hour. See if it dissolves away the sticky sugar and works after it dries out. :)

I had a very tempermental keyboard on my old lap top. When I could come out on a cold morning, I could not get the e, t, s and d to work. Many a time I copied and pasted those letters in in desperation until house warmed up. Finally bought a replacement keyboard but computer died before I got it installed. :(

You might try popping off the keys and trying to clean under there after after keyboard has thoroughly dired.

Shawn has a good idea, only run hot water around the "infected" area then allow it to dry out.

A similar thing happened to me several months ago, and after taking it apart and cleaning it didn't help much I let my daughter have it and got another one from my brother. I'm still using it.

I used to be a vacuum cleaner salesman ($5000 btw), and keyboards were a goldmine. We had a little device that would show what you picked up in a clear plastic container, you'd be disgusted.

This thing was going ballistic! I had to spend an hour disabling the laptop's keyboard so I could use a USB keyboard.

I would turn on the laptop and it would go nuts! But finally I was able to disable the keyboard and now I'm back in business!

Well with old fashioned keyboards (the good kind) with proper PC boards inside, that was no problem. Used to do that all the time (I'm a slob, can't tell you how many cans of pop and cups of coffee I've knocked over onto the KB), take it apart rinse it off in the sink and put back together. My last one that I actually had to go out and BUY a keyboard (ran out of working ones that I picked up on garbage days) to replace, seems they make them with this cheap ass plastic film in two layers with a divider, that is easy enough to rinse off, but has to be completely dry for it to work properly again. I guess I didn't wait long enough, since it didn't work quite so well afterwards..)

Years ago when I had my Amiga I bought something at a show that was literally called the Keyboard Condom. Big thick latex thing that had adhesive on the edges and stuck on top of the keyboard. Worked great except it made for tired fingers after a while...

Yeah. The stupid thing was like $20 back then. It was a good investment at the time, considering they wanted in the range of $120-130 for a replacement KB.. Nowadays with the $9.99 disposable after 6 month keyboards, who cares?
