If the domain is available with other domain extensions, you can always reg it.. when you are planning to transfer your domain, it will be reasonable to contact the Registrar and discuss the process of transferring your domain to them.

Nope. It'll add at least a year on top of your current one, depending how many years you
    add to the transfer.

You should contact the administrator where you buy your domain. In changing domain names, there's usually an additional fee.

When you transfer the domain name to a different registrar you are usually paying for one year registration fee. Typically you will be getting an additional year plus whatever left of your current domain life. Also, you cannot rename your domain while transfer as renaming means a total new different registration/name.

    Good luck!

Nope, you only have to pay the new registrar for the transfer/registration as you already paid the current/old one.

Most registrars charge the one year registration price for the transfer and give you a free year of registration. At least that is what we do at Economical Domains so there are no extra charges to transfer. You get an extra year added on for transferring your domains to us and I think that is how a lot of other registrars work as well.
