Have you tried Joomla? I like its flexibility and the possibilities-- Only that I've used Joomla and Wordpress only. Joomla takes the day for me.. Here's what I've come up with for an articles site and a news site. My Joomla 1.5 News Site: 85 articles My wordpress 3.01 articles Site: 180 articles
Wordpress is the best CMS for any kind of site. I have seen many news ste with visitors count of 100,000 plus in a day using Wordpress. To effectively use wordpress you need to do some performance tuning. This will not only utilize lesser resources but also make your site faster. So I would suggest do not leave Wordpress, it is the BEST. If you need any help with optimization, you can PM me with the site URL.

Provide me a screen shot of the resource usage. As far as ur site is concerned, it has got an amazing loading time and Pagespeed score.

WordPress is your best choice if you want to run a News, Magazine or Blog website. Stay on WordPress if you are able!
Was also wondering about what CMS to go with for my own project also, I will probably go with Wordpress myself.
