I found this interesting article about ranking in Google with directory submission. I wouldn't call it definitive proof but it is a very interesting example where a site ranks because of directory submissions. I checked the rankings and the site is still #1 months later. Do not rely on directory submissions alone but they can definitely be useful as part of any link building strategy.
Of course it works silly... But you hit on a key point. It's just one part of the overall link and traffic building strategy. A key part; not the only part. Nice article BTW.
Hello friend, yes, directory submission is still working.it is one of the useful part of offpage activity and it is also useful to get traffic and backlinks.
I don think anyone says that decent directory listings won't help your ranking . Its just not as important as it used to be
Thanks for the sharing. I just submitted a free directory for my website and wondering how much it helps. I don't put high effort on it, just thinking to have some linkback. Your confirmation on it makes me confident on my choice. Once again, thanks!
Directory Submission still works but if you want your site to be index easily you should use social bookmarking sites instead since Directory submission takes week or months to be added to directory because mostly they are moderated.
The directories were working, and the article mentioned here is just a prof for that. All these submissions to directories are from 2008 and this article proofs that in 2008 directory submission was working, BUT NOT ANYMORE AS IT USED TO BE.
yeah it's just hard getting accepted into most directories, it take a lot of submissions to get anywhere!
Yeah that is exactly what to to do, thought directory submission is very useful way; but there must be other tactics to be associated as directory submission will boost up the rank very rapidly but after killing some times.
Build a good website before submitting to 10,000 directories. Quality goes much further than bulk directory submission.
