Definition of an "access point"

    Can anyone tell me what an “access point” is with regards to external links on one’s website and provide some examples?

    I’ve been searching for definitions and it seems that most of them are related to wireless technologies, which is not the context that I’m interested in. I’m more interested in the context of the term as it relates to marketing.

    Hmmm... I've been involved in IM since 1998, but have never heard of such term in regards to external links. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it from? :)

    I'm essentially wanting to know if a banner ad on a website (linking to a different website) would count as an “access point.”

    Yes, I think you can call it "access point" since you are "accessing" an external website from that "point". ;)
    In the essence, any link to an external resource can be viewed as an "access point" to that resource.
