It was most likely pine tar. It is not the first time he has resorted to cheating to win a game. Pine tar will give you a better grip on the ball, which translates into an unfair advantage when it comes to control. Hell, in Cory League as kids pitchers used to resort to just about everything we could think of. Vaseline under the bill of the hat. A bandaid with a thumb tack under it. Emory boards, you name it. At high speed you would be surprised what affect aerodynamics has on a base ball with just the slightest scuff. I'm a bit disappointed the league and the umps did not take a sample before having him wash it off. It would be pretty sad to have this series go down in the record books to a team that cheated. After getting blown out in game 1, I am a bit suspect. Kinda odd how after he washes his hand (gets caught) he is suddenly retired for the evening.
