Hi I would like to know whether the backlinks from websites like ripoffreport dot com and scaminformer dot com brings negative impact to our website? These are the websites where people post complaint about a service or website.
Does any one have a clue on how Search Engines consider these links as?

As long as the site is not marked as blacklisted or spam by google, it wont have negative effect on your site.. Check the PR of those sites..

Search Engines simply consider them as backlinks only, nothing else. But the SERP matters. You can do some SEO to remove such search result from 1st and 2nd page.

I think that would be benefit to your site. People may shoutout negative impact but somehow other people will let just them be ignored or even appreciate those backlinks existing to your site. Just think of your site as one of the best as one of your backlinks do hehe:D

so you are willing to submit negative reports about your site to those consumer advocate sites in an attempt to get backlinks? this can severely damage your site's reputation. companies are spending 10s of thousands of dollars in reputation management to tackle a single negative report.

A few months back a site called DecomMyEyes based their marketing campaign on negative reviews and getting backlinks from users complaining and they were very successful. Since then Google has made some changes to discount the amount of value a site can get from negative review backlinks. I think it is difficult for Google to always semantically identify what is and what is not a negative review though.

Regardless, if you have lots of backlinks then I do not think it will affect your rankings in Google much, but as others have pointed out it could hurt your reputation. If you only have a few backlinks then a negative review could possibly affect your rankings more or the link could be discounted all together. If negative review backlinks were effective in dropping rankings, then sites would be submitting them about their competitors all day long.
